 Kathy Hayes, principal of The Inside Story Design Statement My goal is to create rooms that delight, comfort, and enlarge clients' personal visions. I'm inspired by the European practice of freely mixing contemporary and traditional elements, using color joyfully, pursuing originality through art and handcrafted objects, and valuing comfort as well as style. Rooms should be welcoming and touchable, lived in rather than looked at. I work with my clients to create comfortable rooms that reflect who they are and enhance the way they live. — K.H. Career Highlights Hayes appeared on NBC/WVIT-TV and was the subject two features in the Hartford Courant's 'At Home' section, as well as other articles. Her work has also appeared in the Orlando Sentinel, the Indianapolis Star, the Bloomfield Journal and The Guild's online newsletter. Hayes has participated in two Junior League Showhouses and was invited to take part in the Wadsworth Athenaeum's Festival of Trees/Mantle Displays. She occasionally teaches decorating classes for West Hartford's Life Learn Program and has been guest speaker at UConn Health Center's "Celebrate Women" programs. Experienced in both residential and commercial decorating, she has worked throughout Connecticut and other New England states, as well as New York and Florida. |

Kathy made my home amazing! Not only does she care about the rooms, she cares about the people who use them. She took the time to understand me. Her creativity is that she doesn't have a canned solution. She looked at me, my life, and the junk I couldn't part with to create an amazing home for me and my young son. People walk in and say, "Wow! This looks exactly like you." Yet the truth is that I would have never come up with it on my own. I told her my favorite colors, showed her the furniture and accessories I absolutely wanted to keep. I wanted formal but not stuffy, comfortable but not sloppy, cool but not ultra-freaky. Oh, and by the way, do this in a house with a small child. Kathy created a look that feels exactly like me and perfectly accommodates my son's endless toys – who knew that toy baskets could become an accessory. I needed help choosing a paint color for my new kitchen. Kathy picked the perfect color, one I would have shied away from without her encouragement. Since then, I have called upon her many times for color advice – from my front door, to hallway, to sun porch – and eventually guidance for complete living and dining room redo's.
