A Room for Grown-Up Living Before, the furniture was placed too far apart for conversation. The room lacked a focal point, as well as color and life. There were too few tables for comfort. These parents of two small children wanted a grown up haven for relaxing and entertaining. After, the furniture is grouped for conversation; tables from the attic were added; accessories and art from other rooms were brought in. We purchased additional accessories, inexpensive pillows, a throw, and a small end table to establish a crimson and blue color scheme, and to add personality to the room. Dried and fresh flowers add color and texture. (Click on photos to the right for full view.) |

Color, Art, Furniture, and Proper Placement This client wanted to radically change the look of the room, but wanted to work with her existing rug and window treatments, as well as her existing tables and two small chairs. First, we painted the walls, arranged her own accessories on the bookshelves, found some great art, and replaced the sofa and armchair. Unusual pillows and a throw completed the shopping list. The room really came alive when the furniture was placed in a more dynamic way, allowing the fireplace to take center stage, and encouraging conversation by placing the chairs closer together.
